DOES LITTLE JOHNNY PLAY GUITAR? ONLINE MAGAZINE LOOKING FOR MUSIC RECORDED BY KIDS
KidsOnlineMagazine.com, a website dedicated to self-expression for kids, is premiering a new section for young musicians called "Your Music Spot." http://www.kidsonlinemagazine.com/yourmusic/yourmusic.html
Any child who sings or plays an instrument is welcome to send in a recording of their music. The music will be converted into a format suitable for the web, and then children all over the world will have the opportunity to download, listen, share, and make comments on the music.
We accept any type of music, from classical to rock to rap and all things in-between. We welcome young musicians of all abilities to share, even if their performance or recording is not "perfect" by some standards. All that we ask is that lyrics be appropriate for all ages, that the music must be performed by a child under the age of 18, and that it doesn't violate any copyright laws.
Thousands of children from all around the world visit the site each month to read articles and see artwork by other children. Visiting the site is fun. It's designed to look and feel like a "real" magazine, with articles, illustrations, and ads, but unlike regular magazines, this one is free and is totally written by children (even the ads). Because it is online, children can also make comments on each article that they read and also send in flash animations that they have created.
The website was created by a work at home mother, Shana Brumlow, and her 8 year old daughter named Nikki. Nikki thinks that "the coolest thing about the website is that your friends and people all over the world can see what you did. You can put pictures, stories, and all kinds of stuff on the site!"
The site has gained a great deal of praise and has won several awards since it's lauch in October of 2001. It was named a "hot site" by USA Today.com, and has been mentioned in popular websites and publications such as Weekly Reader.com, Teach Magazine and Stone Soup.com. It has gained praise from educational websites, parents, teachers, and most importantly, from the kids who send in their writing!
One of the website's young writers commented, "Kids Online Magazine is the best kids site EVER!!! You give me the opportunity to express my mind, heart, and soul in my writing. I hope I have touched everyone who reads my writing, for it is truly what I love to do. Thanks a ton."
The privacy and protection of the young authors, artists, and musicians is very important. The child's parent or teacher must give their permission for their work to be published online, and the website will never publish work that gives too much information about the young author (such as their last name or location).
Parents, Teachers and Children can visit the website now and have their work published in the current edition of the online magazine. The website's address is: http://www.KidsOnlineMagazine.com
